gamedev.place) @eniko@peoplemaking.gamesi wonder why other devs don't seem to localize to (brazilian) portuguese. the 2nd highest country for wishlists for kitsune tails is brazil (7% vs USA 40%), and historically we've had lots of sales from brazil. i get that the price per unit for that region is low but come on that's still a lot of fans you're leaving out in the cold by not localizing your game for them
@eniko Genuine question: how different is written Brazilian from written Portuguese?
@j_bertolotti @eniko Quick googling tells me that the main differences will be in vocabulary plus the Brazilian use of the gerund to name a few. Also people mention informal speech a lot and that in videogames it's especially easy to notice.

@0x0961h @j_bertolotti @eniko it is extremely noticeable and it can cause a large disassociation when one reads the language in the other "version". Words change meaning, some trivial words in one are swears in the other, etc...
Honestly for Portugal the need for translation is quite small. Due to historical reasons(dictatorship) we culturally subtitle everything instead of dubbing, so from 12/14 years onwards everyone is used to consuming media in english.
And also the size of the target market is far smaller.
